Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

#3 Stars Roll Over Muskies

Plymouth, WI – The #3 Dominican University men's volleyball team rolled in straight sets (25-11, 25-18, 25-17) for the regular season-closer to win over Lakeland University on Thursday night.

Two consecutive block assists from Troy Kates and Trey Cowan would help the Stars jump out to an early 7-0 lead. Dominican would later go on a 6-0 run ending with Jack McGuire finding Cowan for a kill to extend the lead to 16-3. A George Kougan kill followed by an attacking error by Lakeland would end the set 25-11.

In the second set, Dominican would fall behind early 10-7 before a block assist from Mat Molloy and Kougan would tie the score to make it 10 apiece. The Stars would go on a 9-0 run that ended with a service ace from Lakeland making it 23-17. The Stars would finish out the set with a kill from Molloy ending it 25-18.

The Muskies did not go quietly though as a kill made it an 11-9 Stars lead early in the third set. A service ace by Danny Pacini and a kill by Kougan would give the Stars some breathing room to extend the lead to 13-11. A service ace by Lakeland closed out the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

"I'm really proud of the season this team put together. To finish 10-1 in the conference and 14-1 overall is a great accomplishment," said Head Coach Cameron Andrew. "They've done such a great job staying focused and taking care of business even with all of the hurdles that came with the pandemic."

Offensively, Stars hit .286 while having 29 kills and 13 service aces in the match. Cowan would lead the Stars with 11 kills, hitting .421 on the night while McGuire had 25 assists. Defensively, Kates led the Stars with five blocks while Molloy had four, and Kougan and Cowan each had three of their own. Molloy also had seven digs in the match.

"We still don't think we have reached our full potential and now we just really need to figure out how to unlock that last gear that we know we have," continued Coach Andrew. "So, we will get back into the practice gym tomorrow and get to work and putting those final pieces of the puzzle together."

The Stars will return to action on Thursday, April 8th when they will host a NACC Tournament semifinal match at 7:00 p.m.
