Overtime Goal Advances Stars to NACC South Division Championship

River Forest, IL – The Dominican University men's soccer team hosted Concordia University Chicago in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) South Division semifinal matchup, squeaking out the 2-1 win in overtime.

The Stars got an early goal in the first half when Vicente Castro and Adrian Pituch were able to connect before crossing the ball to a crashing Garrett Boston in the box to give them the 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.

Dominican controlled the pace of play in the first half, outshooting the Cougars 10-2.

The Stars had a chance to pad their lead in the 50th minute after a Cougars foul inside the 18' but the penalty kick sailed wide right of the goal.

Concordia University Chicago responded in the 81st minute as the Cougars got a through ball up the middle of the field giving the Cougars' shooter an opportunity just outside the 18' that he finished in the bottom left side to knot the score up at 1-1 and send the game into overtime.

The Stars wasted little time finding the game-winner as Castro created space to cross the ball into the box in the 92nd minute connecting with Juan Guzman who found the back of the net to notch his second goal of the season and to seal the 2-1 victory.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how we come out to compete on Sunday," Said Head Coach Erick Baumann. "There is a championship on the line."

The Stars will vie for that championship on Sunday, April 25th when they host Aurora University for the NACC South Division Championship at West Campus Field at 4:00 p.m.
