Stars Upset #5 Aurora in Game One 2-1

Aurora, IL – The Dominican University baseball team traveled to Aurora University for a doubleheader matchup taking game one upsetting #5 Spartans 2-1 before dropping game two 12-0.

Game One:

In the top of the third inning, Ryan Simak led off with a single to center field. Simak advanced to third off of a Stars single and sacrifice bunt. A sacrifice fly by Grayson Downing brought Simak across home plate to give it the early 1-0 lead.

The Spartans responded in the bottom of the eighth inning with a run of their own to tie it at 1-1.

Garrett Wano hit a single up the middle in the top of the ninth inning to get things going for the Stars. Matt Galdi then stepped up big hitting a double to center field that brought Wano around the bases and gave the Stars the 2-1 advantage and needing just three outs to close out the win.

Bryant Bagshaw stayed on for the ninth and worked around a lead-off single to finish off the complete-game win.

"Matt Galdi had a huge RBI double in the eighth inning to put us up one and Bagshaw slammed the door in the ninth," said Head Coach Steve Hardman.

Game Two:

Aurora got things going early as it brought four runners around the bases in the bottom of the first inning before adding five more in the bottom of the second to take the 9-0 lead.

The Spartans added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth extend the margin on their way to earning the 12-0 victory.

On the day Camron Stafford had three hits.

"Today there were a lot of highs and lows. We go out in the first game behind the arm of Bryant Bagshaw and beat the #5 team in the country and then turn around and lay an egg in the second game," said Coach Hardman. "I was very pleased with the game we played in game one but we need to bring that level of play every game and show some consistency."

The Stars return to action Tuesday, April 27th when they travel to Elmhurst University for a single nine-inning matchup starting at 6:00 p.m.
