Stars Sweep Regents

Rockford, IL – The Dominican University softball team traveled to Rockford University for a doubleheader matchup as they swept the Regents 3-2 in game one before edging out a 2-0 win in game two.

Game One:

The Regents started the scoring early in the top of the first inning as they were able to bring two runners around the bases to give them the early 2-0 lead.

Theresa Wilterman was hit by a pitch to get things going for the Stars in the bottom of the second inning. A single to right-center by Cecelia Winters-McCarthy advanced Wilterman to third. McCarthy stole second before a Megan McCamman sacrifice fly to center-field plated Wilterman to cut the deficit to 2-1. Lexi Breceda stepped into the box next hitting a single RBI bringing Winters-McCarthy across home plate to tie it up at two apiece.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kennedy Marvin reached on a fielder's choice by the Regents. A triple to right-center field by Zoe Deeringer brought Marvin around the bases allowing the Stars to take the 3-2 lead and secure the victory.

Game Two:

The Stars started the scoring in game two in the bottom of the fourth inning when Wilsetman hit a home run over the left-field fence to give them the 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Breceda led off with a walk. Candace Kipp stepped up next hitting a double RBI to right-field that plated Breceda to extend the lead to 2-0 and that would be all the Stars needed to secure the victory.
