Rockford, IL – The Dominican University softball team traveled to Rockford University for a doubleheader matchup as they swept the Regents 3-2 in game one before edging out a 2-0 win in game two.
Game One:
The Regents started the scoring early in the top of the first inning as they were able to bring two runners around the bases to give them the early 2-0 lead.
Theresa Wilterman was hit by a pitch to get things going for the Stars in the bottom of the second inning. A single to right-center by Cecelia Winters-McCarthy advanced Wilterman to third. McCarthy stole second before a
Megan McCamman sacrifice fly to center-field plated Wilterman to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Lexi Breceda stepped into the box next hitting a single RBI bringing Winters-McCarthy across home plate to tie it up at two apiece.
In the bottom of the fifth inning,
Kennedy Marvin reached on a fielder's choice by the Regents. A triple to right-center field by
Zoe Deeringer brought Marvin around the bases allowing the Stars to take the 3-2 lead and secure the victory.
Game Two:
The Stars started the scoring in game two in the bottom of the fourth inning when Wilsetman hit a home run over the left-field fence to give them the 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Breceda led off with a walk.
Candace Kipp stepped up next hitting a double RBI to right-field that plated Breceda to extend the lead to 2-0 and that would be all the Stars needed to secure the victory.
Allyson Dilday gets her ninth win, second on the day, throwing a combined 11 innings while striking out 20 batters.
The Stars are back in action Saturday, May 1st when they travel to Rockford University for a doubleheader matchup with the Regents with the first pitch set for 4:00 p.m.
