Schaumburg, IL – The Dominican University baseball team dropped a pair of NACC regular season games to Rockford on Saturday afternoon. The Regents would finish the Stars in seven innings by a score of 11-1 before completing the sweep 9-4 in game two.
Game One Recap:
After a scoreless first inning by both teams, Rockford got on the board in the second inning as a RBI groundout gave the Regents a 1-0 lead.
Both pitchers would dual and the keep the same score until the fifth inning as an RBI single plated one to make it 2-0 before a Rockford gram slam homerun stretched the lead to 6-0.
Garrett Wano got the Stars on the board in the bottom of the fifth as he smacked a solo homerun over the left field fence to make it 6-1 Regents.
The sixth inning saw the Regents tack on four to make it 10-1. Rockford tacked one the last run they needed in the seventh to make in 11-1 before shutting the door.
Game Two Recap:
After giving up a run in the top of the first to make it 1-0 Rockford, the Stars would get some offense going as a
Matt Galdi single would plate
Grayson Downing to knot it up at 1-1.
Cameron Stafford got in on the action as his RBI single plated
Keegan Brandt before Downing's sac fly brought in
Brandon Diedrich to make it 3-1 Stars.
Rockford's bats would not stay quiet for long as a three run fourth inning gave them the slim 4-3 lead.
In the fifth, the Regents plated another as an RBI double made it 5-3.
Kevin Evans' RBI single would give the Stars some life in the sixth to knock the deficit down to 5-4.
Rockford left zero to chance as a three run seventh inning extended the lead 8-4 before tacking on one last run in the eight to complete the sweep and secure game two 9-4.
The Stars return to Wintrust on Saturday as a crucial series against the Illinois Tech Scarlett Hawks will determine their playoff hopes. First pitch is set for 12:00pm.
