RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Dominican University men's soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 non-conference win against Knox College on Wednesday afternoon. 

DU got its 2021 campaign off to a flying start as Zachary Gamster headed home a Vicente Castro free kick in the 12th minute to put the Stars on the board early. Knox produced a few first half chances, but a strong effort on the Dominican defensive end, especially in the second half, led the Stars to a season opening shutout win.

Daniel Dominguez earned the shutout between the pipes, stopping two shots. Dominican totaled 11 shots, nine on target while the Prairie Fire managed six shots, two on target. The Knox keeper kept DU from getting more, making eight saves. A total of five cards were brandished in the match, all against Knox. 

The Stars remain at home for their next match-up against Elmhurst University on Friday, Sept. 3. Kick-off is set for 4:00pm on West Campus Field.
