RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's men's soccer team was defeated 3-2 by Elmhurst University in a back-and-forth non-conference contest at West Campus Field on Friday.
Elmhurst got on the board first in the 26th minute, but DU equalized quickly with a
Garrett Boston goal in the 35th. Just before the half, the Blue Jays found the net again, staking themselves to 2-1 halftime lead.
The Stars started the second half on the front foot, but Elmhurst added another in the 63rd to take a commanding 3-1 lead. In the 70th minute,
Dylan Alic latched onto a bouncing ball in the box and hammered a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner to bring Dominican within one.
DU had numerous chances in the final 20 minutes, but were kept off the board, suffering their first defeat of the 2021 campaign. The goals for Boston and Alic are their first of the season. Boston's goal was assisted by both
Zachary Gamster and
Giovannie Ortiz while Alic's tally came from
Jesus Lopez. Dominican totaled 19 shots, six on target, while Elmhurst managed just five, three on target.
