RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's women's volleyball team split its two matches at the DU Triangular on Saturday, downing Knox in straight sets before suffering a 3-0 defeat to North Park.
Knox
The Stars got their home triangular off to a solid start with a 25-13 win over the Prairie Fire in Set One. DU didn't look back from that point, winning the final two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-19, respectively. Offensively, Dominican was dominant, racking up 34 kills at a .244 clip.
Gabija Sinickaite led the attack with 10 kills as eight different Stars registered at least one kill in the match.
Emily Schellhase also had a nice day from her outside hitter spot, totaling seven kills with a .429 attack percentage. The setting duo of
Adeleen Dunker and
Olivia Mendell totaled 19 and eight assists, respectively, to pace the DU attack.
Defensively,
Sarah Lychock anchored the backline with nine digs, adding two aces and two assists while picking up a kill, the 10th of her career. The win for DU is its first home win of 2021.
North Park
Dominican went toe-to-toe with a strong North Park side, but ultimately fell in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-23. DU had 34 kills to NPU's 37 and held a 6-4 advantage from the service line. The true difference was the efficiency of the attacks for both teams as NPU hit .257 compared to Dominican's .103.
Sinickaite led the way with 13 kills and
Maya Green joined her in double-figures with 10. Lychock racked up 14 digs with
Summer Smith supporting with 10 digs and four aces. Dunker dished out 15 assists while Mendell was responsible for 13 to pace the offense.
Dominican faces off with Benedictine on Wednesday, Sept. 15 for its NACC lid-lifter at 7 p.m. inside the Igini Sports Forum.
