RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's women's soccer program dominated its matchup with Lakeland University on Saturday afternoon, downing the Muskies 5-0.
DU and Lakeland battled for the first ten minutes, but the Stars got on the scoresheet first with a goal from
Sophia Bartridge, assisted by
Ashleigh Huerta in the 22nd minute. The scoring duo traded places a short time later in the 24th minute as Huerta latched onto a chip-ball from Bartridge and curled it into the top left corner. Lakeland surrendered an own goal in the 38th minute, giving Dominican a commanding 3-0 halftime lead.
Regan Coxon opened her 2021 account with a penalty goal in the 58th minute. Ava Mascoe-Talbot added her first tally of the season in the 64th minute, bending in a long shot to put DU up 5-0.
Katie Norlie assisted on Mascoe-Talbott's goal.
Rachel Huser and
Ashley Ishman each played a half between the pipes, combining for the shutout, DU's second of the season.
