RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's men's soccer team posted a shutout victory over Benedictine University on Wednesday evening, downing the Eagles 2-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action.
After a back-and-forth first 14 minutes, DU broke the deadlock after a ball was played in by the left foot of
Randall Pietrowski, flicked on by
Garrett Boston and found
Giacomo Parrino at the back post. Parrino headed into a wide-open net late in the 14th minute and put the Stars ahead 1-0, an advantage they would maintain to halftime.
Benedictine continued to threaten as the first half progressed and into the second half, but Dominican sealed the win late as
Giovannie Ortiz slotted home a cross from
Nick Kowalczyk in the 81st minute to go up 2-0. DU defended well for the final nine minutes and secured the three points and its fifth-straight victory.
The backline was excellent as
Matt Skorupa and
Dylan Alic kept Benedictine at bay for much of the 90 minutes.
Daniel Dominguez also came up with a few crucial saves to keep the Eagles off the board.
DU, now 3-0 in NACC competition, continues NACC play on Saturday, Sept. 25, facing off with Wisconsin Lutheran on the road at 3:30 p.m. Links to live coverage will be available on dustars.com.
