RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's men's soccer team won its seventh-straight game on Wednesday afternoon, posting a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Rockford University in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action.
The Stars broke down a defensive Rockford side, scoring first in the 12th minute.
Garrett Boston hammered a left-footed volley into the side-netting off a right-footed curling cross from Zackary Gamster to put DU up 1-0. Dominican had a few more chances in the first 45 minutes, but took this 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, DU had much of the possession and scored its second goal in the 59th minute.
Vicente Castro flicked a header on to
Giovannie Ortiz, whose header was mishandled by the Rockford keeper to put the Stars ahead 2-0. Castro got on the scoresheet himself in the 81st minute, converting a penalty after a foul in the box.
Daniel Dominguez pitched a shutout between the pipes as Rockford totaled just one shot in the match. DU had 20 total shots, seven on target and led 9-1 in corner kicks taken.
Dominican will look to continue its unblemished NACC record its next time out, taking on St. Norbert at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2 at West Campus Field. Live coverage will be available via dustars.com.
