GRINNELL, Iowa – Dominican University's women's volleyball team was defeated by Grinnell College and University of Wisconsin-Platteville in straight sets to open up its weekend at the Grinnell College Tournament.
Grinnell
Set One was very back-and-forth, but Grinnell had the final say with three straight tallies to take the frame, 25-22. The second set was again a tightly-contested affair with DU falling 25-20. Set three featured a big Grinnell run that secured them the victory, winning the final frame, 25-11.
Gabija Sinickaite and
Maya Green led the Star attack with six kills each.
Sarah Lychock picked up 12 digs on the defensive end, adding one assist.
UW-Platteville
Much like the first match with Grinnell, set one was up-for-grabs for a large portion of the frame. A four-point closing run by UWP earned them the set victory, 25-22. The Pioneers carried that momentum into set two, winning 25-14. Dominican rallied late in the third set, rattling off five-straight points, but ultimately fell in the third, 25-21
Sinickaite once again led the way offensively with seven kills from the outside.
Emily Schellhase and Green chipped in six and five kills, respectively.
Adeleen Dunker paced the offense with 16 assists while Lychock had seven digs on the backline.
Olivia Mendell,
Morgan Parsons and
Mia Febles all got their first kills of their DU career today.
