JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Dominican University's women's volleyball team secured a dramatic, five-set victory over Illinois College on the road Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
DU cruised to victories in the opening two sets, winning 25-20 and 25-17, but Illinois College stormed back to take the next two frames, 25-14 and 25-21. In the deciding fifth-set, both teams battled to the end, but the Stars secured the set victory, 23-21, to take the match 3-2.
Maya Green posted a season-high 18 kills to lead the offensive effort.
Gabija Sinickaite and
Emily Schellhase also had solid performances in attack, racking up 14 kills each.
Morgan Parsons was the fourth Dominican player with double-digit kills, posting 12 kills at a team-high .292 clip.
Adeleen Dunker dished out 53 assists to pace the Star offense.
Defensively,
Sarah Lychock anchored the backline to the tune of 30 digs, adding five assists and one service ace. Dunker and Schellhase both had double-doubles as they collected 11 and 27 digs, respectively.
As a team, DU has 64 kills and hit .169 compared to Illinois College's 46 kills and .116 attack percentage. The Dominican defense also had a season-best 90 digs. This win for Dominican snapped an eight-match losing streak.
