No. 3 Men's Volleyball Downs No. 12 Juniata in Five Sets

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's third-ranked men's volleyball team downed 12th-ranked Juniata College in five sets in its season opener on Friday evening. 
 
DU faced off with the Eagles on their home floor and secured the opening frame with a late run, 25-20. Juniata set the pace in the second set with 16 kills, evening the match at 1-all. The Stars trailed only three times in the third set, most of them early, and cruised to a 25-21 win. 
 
The Eagles posted 17 kills in the fourth set to Dominican's nine as Juniata came away with a 15-13 win. In the deciding frame, DU fended off the Eagles and never trailed, securing the dramatic victory, 15-13. 
 
Lucas Eggers hit .533 with eight kills, adding five assists and nine digs. George Kougan led the way with 13 kills and Jacob Bush had 12 kills, attacking at a .550 clip. Trey Cowan was also in double-digits with 10 kills, chipping in three service aces and four digs. Jack McGuire facilitated the offensive effort with 34 assists, adding eight kills. 
 
Dominican takes on Baldwin Wallace at noon and Stevenson at 4 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday Jan. 21 in neutral site non-conference competition to wrap up its Pennsylvania stay.
