RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's second-ranked men's volleyball program secured a thrilling five-set road victory over defending National Champion and tenth-ranked Carthage College on Friday night.
Carthage came out firing in the opening set with the Firebirds claiming a 25-18 victory. DU stormed back to a 25-20 second set win, but fell to Carthage 25-16 in the third, going behind 2-1 in the match. The Stars, whom had been in this same position and won versus Stevenson, never wavered and edged out Carthage 25-23 in the fourth set and 18-16 in the deciding set to move to 4-0.
Trey Cowan picked up steam as the match progressed and finished with 17 kills at a blistering .389 clip.
George Kougan also provided an offensive impact with 12 kills, adding two block assists and five digs.
Jack McGuire continued to stuff the stat sheet with seven kills, 35 assists, one ace, one block assist and nine digs in the match.
Danny Pacini anchored the backline with 10 digs.
