RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's top-ranked men's volleyball program defeated Fontbonne University in four sets on Thursday in non-conference action at home.
The Stars, in the program's first-ever match as No. 1, split the opening two sets, but caught fire down the stretch. Despite losing set two, a late comeback pushed the momentum in DU's favor, allowing it to take sets three and four by scores of 25-17 and 25-21, respectively.
George Kougan led the way with 16 kills, adding three service aces and seven digs.
Trey Cowan was also in double-digits, finishing with 14 kills at a .344 clip, also adding three aces and four digs.
Mat Molloy was a force in the middle, racking up nine kills at a blistering .818 clip while adding 8.0 total blocks, three solo.
Jack McGuire dished out 36 assists and had a double-double with a team-high 15 digs.
Danny Pacini anchored the back line with 12 digs, adding two assists. As a team, DU had 11.0 blocks to Fontbonne's 6.0 and attacked at a .304 clip compared to the Griffins .209.
