Softball Earns Split with Mitchell, Otterbein

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's softball team split its two matchups on Sunday in Florida, defeating Mitchell College in the opener before falling to Otterbein University in the second game.

Mitchell

Allyson Dilday (3-0) took the mound for DU and was excellent again, striking out seven in a complete-game performance, surrendering just one unearned run. Dominican used some timely hitting in the bottom of the third to spot Dilday a 2-0 lead, which proved to be just enough.

Mitchell got one back in the bottom of the seventh, but the Stars escaped any further damage, claiming the 2-1 win. Kennedy Marvin was 3-for-3 in the game with a run scored. Geneva Pollman and Makayla Barnes each had RBI with Megan Hufnagle scoring DU's second run.

Otterbein

Dominican took on Otterbein in the second game of the day and jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after the top of the first. DU led 3-1 headed into the bottom of the sixth, but the Cardinals scratched across runs in their final two at-bats to send the game to extra innings.

Otterbein completed the comeback in the bottom of the eighth, sinking DU 4-3 in extra innings. Kailey Kirkwood continued her hot start with all three DU RBI in the game. Emma Woodhouse started for Dominican, pitching 5.0 innings and surrendered one earned run with three strikeouts. Dilday (3-1) came in to relieve Woodhouse and suffered her first loss of the season.

DU has an off day before its takes on Westfield State University and Russell Sage College on Tuesday, March 8. Links to live stats are available via dustars.com.
