Box Score 1 RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's softball team earned victories over Westfield State University and Russell Sage College on Tuesday at the Spring Games in Clermont.
Westfield State
DU trailed 2-0 after two, but gained its first lead in the third with a three-run inning. Both sides pitched well as the 3-2 advantage for Dominican was maintained into the sixth before Westfield pushed across three runs to go ahead 5-3. DU answered right back with two runs in the bottom half, however, and a scoreless seventh sent the game to extra innings.
WSU pushed across two in its half of the eighth, but DU had the final say as a
Kailey Kirkwood single secured the win for the Stars in walk-off fashion, claiming the 8-7 victory.
Geneva Pollman went 3-for-5 from her leadoff spot with two RBI and a run scored.
Theresa Wilsterman and Zoe Deering had three hits each with Wilsterman knocking in a team-high three runs.
Allyson Dilday (4-1) earned the win, scattering six hits and surrendering just three earned runs while striking out 11.
Russell Sage
DU scored two in the top of the first and a strong pitching performance from
Emma Woodhouse (2-1) made that lead hold up with the Stars edging RSC 2-1. Woodhouse pitched a complete game, three-hitter, striking out five and surrendering just one earned run.
Wilsterman provided both of DU's RBI with a double in the second inning. She finished the day with two hits while
Kennedy Marvin,
Giselle Castaneda and
Megan Hufnagle accounted for the other three hits for DU.
