RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's baseball team won its third-straight game in Florida on Monday evening, holding off Trine University for a 9-7 victory.
Dominican got off to a hot start, holding a 7-0 lead after 4.0 innings. Trine answered with a three-run sixth to cut the lead to 7-3, but DU responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Up 9-3, the Stars navigated a Thunder four-run eighth to finish off the win with a scoreless ninth, claiming the 9-7 victory.
Justin Gasper (1-1) started and earned the win, pitching 5.0 innings and giving up four hits and three earned runs.
Dominic Desch closed out the ninth with two strikeouts and earned the save.
Brandon Diedrich led the offense with three hits in five at-bats, knocking in two and scoring a run.
Grayson Downing,
Keegan Brandt and Desch all had mult-hit games. Downing had a team-high three RBI. As a team, DU had seven extra base hits which included a Diedrich long ball.
