RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's softball team claimed wins over PSU Behrend and Gordon College on Wednesday at the Spring Games in Clermont.
PSU Behrend
DU went down by three runs early, spotting PSU Behrend a three-run cushion after 3.0 innings. Dominican clawed back with one in the fourth, but the Lions retook their three-run lead immediately in the fifth, going ahead 4-1.
The Stars pulled through in their final at-bat however, scoring five in the top of the seventh take their first lead, 6-4.
Emma Woodhouse came in to finish off the game and picked up her second save.
Allyson Dilday (5-1) went 6.0 innings, scattering seven hits while giving up four runs, three earned with eight strikeouts.
Kailey Kirkwood put Dominican ahead in the seventh and finished 3-for-3 with three RBI.
Theresa Wilsterman had two hits and scored twice, adding an RBI.
Kennedy Marvin also had a two-hit outing.
Gordon
DU took an early lead 2-0 before Gordon knotted the score at 2-all in the top of the third. DU responded with a five-run bottom half, though, to take a commanding 7-2 lead. The Stars made this advantage hold up, winning 8-5 for a sweep on the day.
Woodhouse (4-1) started for DU and went 5.0 innings, giving up three earned runs.
Geneva Pollman finished off the game with the final 2.0 innings, giving up two runs. Offensively, Pollman was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Makayla Barnes also had three hits with two runs scored. Kirkwood had one hit, a grand slam that gave DU a five-run cushion in the third.
