RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's softball program swept Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) doubleheader on Friday evening.
Head Coach
Cristina Lukas earned her 400th career win in DU's 11-3 run-rule victory in game one against the Sabres. Dominican followed that with a 4-1 victory in the night cap to move to 4-0 in NACC play and 17-1 overall.
Game One
Allyson Dilday (9-1) threw 6.0 innings for the Stars, striking out five while giving up seven hits and three earned runs. Both teams were tied at 1-all after the first inning, but Marian claimed a 3-2 lead in its half of the fifth. Dominican then responded in a big way as
Theresa Wilsterman launched a grand slam over the left field fence in the bottom half of the inning to put DU ahead to stay. The Stars tacked on four more in the sixth and DU claimed the sudden victory by run-rule after six innings.
Wilsterman was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBI.
Geneva Pollman and
Delaney McRiley also had multiple hits.
Priscylla Rutter collected one hit and one RBI.
Game Two
Emma Woodhouse (5-0) pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters. DU went ahead 2-0 in the second and added two more in the fourth, which proved plenty of insurance for Woodhouse to finish off the win.
Makayla Barnes was 2-for-4 with a triple.
Kailey Kirkwood also tripled while Pollman had a team-high two RBI.
Megan Hufnagle picked up the other RBI for DU.
Dominican continues NACC play Sunday, April 3 at noon, taking on Wisconsin Lutheran in Rosemont, Ill. Live coverage will be available via dustars.com.
