RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's baseball program split its doubleheader with the Illinois Institute of Technology in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Saturday.
DU defeated IIT by a run-rule victory 12-2 in the opener before falling 13-11 in the final contest.
Game One
Hayden Young (6-1) pitched all 7.0 innings, allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out five. DU jumped out to a 6-0 lead after five and finished off the win with a six-run bottom of the seventh.
Matt Galdi had a team-high four hits, scoring two runs and racking up three RBI.
Grayson Downing and
CJ Kalekas each had two hits and two RBI.
Keegan Brandt,
Garrett Wano and
Brandon Diedrich picked up one RBI a piece.
Game Two
Both sides combined for 22 runs in the first four innings, but the score was tied at 11-all from the fourth into the eighth. IIT pushed across two runs, one in the eighth and one in the ninth, to secure this offensive slugfest which featured 24 hits.
Diedrich hit a three-run homer and went 2-for-5 with four RBI. Brandt and
Braiden Galvin had two hits and two RBI each.
