Baseball Splits with Rockford

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's baseball program split its doubleheader on Sunday with Rockford in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.

DU won the opener 12-10 before falling 10-7 in the second game, moving to 18-12 overall and 9-7 in NACC play.

Game One
Grayson Downing led off with a homer to begin the contest with DU jumping out to a 4-2 lead after 3.5 innings. Rockford responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Dominican outscored the Regents 8-4 from that point to secure the two-run victory.

Joey Haslam (1-1) earned the win in relief in 4.1 innings, giving up just two hits and one earned run while striking out seven. As a team, the Stars hit four homers in the game with Brandon Diedrich, Jake Polonus, Dominic Desch and Downing each recording one.

Game Two
DU held an early 6-2 advantage after three innings, but Rockford responded with eight runs over the final six innings while the Stars were held to one in the sixth. Tyler Ferraro (3-1) pitched 5.0 innings and suffered the loss, allowed eight runs, three earned while striking out nine.

Offensively, Garret Wano and Polonus homered, bringing the Stars' count to six in the two-game series. Payton Brooks and Braiden Galvin had the other two RBI for Dominican.

Wano becomes the single-season record-holder with his seventh homer. As a team, DU is now on 21 homers, which is also a new single-season record.
