RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's softball program swept Alverno College via two run-rule victories on Sunday in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action.
DU downed Alverno by scores of 17-1 and 16-0, respectively, to move to 25-7 overall and 12-6 in NACC play.
Game One
Dominican stormed out to an early advantage and continue to tack on runs as the game progressed.
Emma Woodhouse (8-2) earned the victory in 3.0 innings, allowing just one run and two hits while striking out four.
Molly Stuhr pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out three.
Makayla Barnes,
Priscylla Rutter,
Kailey Kirkwood,
Zoe Deeringer and
Olivia Johnson all had multi-hit games with each recording one RBI or more. Woodhouse helped herself out in the circle with one hit and two RBI.
Clarissa Cruz,
Erin Garman and
Alexa Breceda all contributed to the offensive effort with one RBI a piece.
Game Two
The Stars got off to another hot start, plating five runs in the first on their way to a 16-0 win. Woodhouse (9-2) earned second victory of the day in 3.0 innings, scattering four hits while striking out five. Stuhr again came on in relief of Woodhouse and shut down Alverno in the final two frames.
Offensively,
Megan McCamman had eight RBI to lead Dominican, going 4-for-4.
Hanna Voegtle, Johnson and Rutter each tacked on two RBI.
