Winter Haven, Fl. - The Dominican University softball team finished up their spring break trip on Saturday.
The Stars took on Wentworth Institute of Technology in the first game and SUNY New Paltz in the second.
Game 1 Results:
WIT: 7
Dominican: 5
How it Happened:
-Dominican had to fight from behind right away as they gave up 2 runs in the first inning.
-DU then took a blow in the third inning with 3 runs scoring on a home run.
-The Stars fought back in the fourth with a run scoring on an RBI double from senior
Kailey Kirkwood.
-WIT added to their lead in the top of the sixth with a run scoring on an RBI double.
-DU came alive in the sixth inning with 4 runs scoring.
-Freshman
Elise Gamino and sophomore
Emma Woodhouse highlighted the big inning with RBI singles.
-Junior Theresa Wilterman had the big hit in the inning with a 2-RBI double.
-Dominican's comeback efforts would fall just short with an additional run scoring for WIT in the seventh.
Shining Stars:
-Kirkwood had a terrific game going 4-4 with a double and an RBI.
-Woodhouse also reached twice and had an RBI.
-Junior
Alexis Smith did a nice job out of the bullpen for the Stars as she pitched over 4 innings and only allowed 2 runs on 4 hits.

Game 2 Results:
Dominican: 7
New Paltz: 8
How it Happened:
-The Stars fell behind in the second game as well with 2 runs coming across for NP in the second.
-DU snatched the lead back in the top of the third inning when junior
Theresa Wilsterman blasted her 3rd home run of the season.
-NP was able to tie the game in the bottom half.
-Dominican regained the lead in the fourth inning when junior
Delaney McRiley hit a 2-RBI single and the Stars led 5-3 after 4 innings.
-The offense for NP got hot in the bottom half of the inning and NP scored 4 runs and took the lead 7-5.
-NP added to that in the fifth as another run scored on an RBI single.
-DU didn't give up and notched runs in the sixth and seventh inning with RBI singles from junior
Makayla Barnes and freshman
Ryley Davis.
-The Stars fell just one run short and lost 8-7.
Shining Stars:
-Wilsterman was the offensive star with her 3-run home run.
-McRiley also had a multi-RBI performance with 3 hits.
-Junior
Alexis Smith had another strong bullpen showing going an inning and two-thirds without allowing a hit.
