Stars Sweep the Green Knights

Schaumburg, Ill. - The Dominican University baseball team hosted the Green Knights of St. Norbert College Thursday night for a conference double header. 

Game 1 Results:
DU:7
St. Norbert:6

How it Happened:
-St.Norbert scored first by scoring a run on two hits in the first inning. 
-The Stars tie the game at one by an RBI single off the bat of Sophomore Braiden Galvin
-The Green Knights took the lead back in the top of the third by scoring a run on two hits. 
-St. Norbert added to the lead in the 5th by scoring two runs on four hits. 
-Dominican chipped into the lead by scoring a run off a sacrifice fly by Junior Grayson Downing. Making the score 4-2
-DU was not done scoring in the bottom of the seventh Sophomore CJ Kalekas delivered an RBI single. Senior Garrott Wano gave Dominican the lead with a two out RBI single. 
-The Green Knights tookt the lead in the top of the ninth by scoring two runs on two hits. 
-Dominican tied it up in the bottom of the ninth by a throwing error of the St. Norbert catcher. 
-The game remained tied at six for the next nine innings. 
-In the bottom of the 19th inning Dominican wins it off the bat of Kalekas. 
-This broke the NACC record for a longest single game in innings with 19 completed innings. 

Shining Stars:
-Senior Garrott Wano led the Stars with 2 RBIs and going 3-6 with 3 walks. 
-Sophomore CJ Kalekas went 3-10 driving in a run 
-Junior Grayson Downing went 3-7 with a walk. 
-Freshman John Tormey went 3-8 with a walk
-5th Year Hayden Young started the game going 6 innings with 5 strikeouts. 
-The Bullpen of Payton Brooks, Chris Kendziora, Tyler Ferraro, Joey Haslem, and Carson Harvey accounted for 13 innings and only giving up two runs.

Game 2 Results:

How it Happened:
- St. Norbert once again got on the board first scoring 3 runs in the top half of the third. 
-Stars tied it up in their half of the third off an RBI single from Downing and Wano triple. 
-The Green Knights scored three runs in the top of the sixth making the score 6-3. 
-Dominican got a run back in the bottom of the sixth from a sacrifice fly off the bat of Freshman John Tormey
-St. Norbert added a run in the top of the ninth making it 7-4. 
-The bats came alive for Dominican in the bottom of the ninth with a two run RBI triple from Junior Matt Galdi
-Wano tied the game up on an RBI double. 
-Sophomore Gavin Zappe walked it off for the Stars on an RBI single. 

Shining Stars:
-Wano had a big game with 3 of the 8 RBIs for the team.
-Freshman Zach Helein wnt 2-4 at the plate. 
-Ethan Shepherd and Matthew Hannafin both did their job and combined for 11 strikeouts.

What's Next:
The Dominican University baseball team will be back in action Monday April 10th on the road at Edgewood College for a double header starting at 12:00 p.m.
