River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's volleyball team hosted St. Norbert College on Thursday's Homecoming match.
Results:
SNC: 2
DU: 3
How it Happened:
-Dominican fed off the energy of Homecoming weekend and had a great first set.
-The Stars had fewer kills than SNC but also fewer errors and that was the main reason they won.
-DU won the first set 25-21.
-Dominican weathered the storm of two strong sets from SNC.
-The Stars had 12 errors in the second and third set combined and just 11 the rest of the match.
-DU fell behind 2-1 after losing those sets 25-18 and 25-15 respectively.
-Dominican came back and never gave up including a huge fourth-set with 13 kills.
-The Stars forced a fifth and final set after winning the fourth 25-18.
-DU fell behind early in the fifth set, but then starting feeding their play to the star senior
Cassidy Spies who had kill after kill in the final set.
-Dominican won a nail-biting fifth set 15-13 to earn their first conference victory of the season.
Shining Stars:
-Spies set a new career-high with 27 kills.
-JuniorÂ
Olivia Mendell had a strong performance as well with 42 assists and 17 digs.
-SeniorÂ
Maya Green made her presence known and led the team in blocks while contributing 7 kills as well.
