Stars Split in Lake Forest

Lake Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's volleyball team traveled to Lake Forest College for two matches on Saturday.

Match 1:
Dominican: 3
Lake Forest College: 0

How it Happened:
-Dominican took a little time to get into a rhythm as they had 7 errors in the first set.
-Despite this, DU capitalized on LFC's 12 errors and won the first set 25-22.
-The Stars had a great second set with just 1 error in the set.
-Dominican dominated with a 25-15 victory to go up 2 sets to none.
-DU carried that momentum into the third set where they had a match-high 13 kills.
-The Stars finished off the Foresters in straight sets winning the third and final set 25-18.

Shining Stars:
-Senior Cassidy Spies led once again in kills while also contributing 2 assists.
-Junior Olivia Mendell had a strong match in the service department leading with 3 aces and also contributing 22 assists.
-Sophomore Emma Mendell had one of her best matches of the season with 6 blocks and 7 kills.

Match 2:
Dubuque: 3
Dominican: 2

How it Happened:
-Dominican struggled again in the first set as they had a match-high 11 errors.
-DU lost the first set 25-14.
-The Stars regathered themselves for the second set and narrowly won the second set 25-23.
-Dubuque fought back in the third and the Stars fell 25-22 despite only committing 5 errors compated to the Spartan's 7.
-Dominican battled in the fourth set as it was back and forth all throughout.
-DU had just 6 errors and won a drawn out set 29-27 to stay alive and force a fifth and final set.
-The Stars finally ran out of gas and lost the final set 15-9.

Shining Stars:
-Spies led the match in kills and also had 2 aces.
-Junior Miriam Guler was solid offensively and defensively leading the Stars in aces and digs.
-Senior Emily Schellhase also contributed in a variety of ways with 6 kills, 19 digs, and an ace.
