Balanced Attack Leads Stars Past Cougars

River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University men's soccer team concluded their regular season campaign at home against the Cougars of Concordia University Chicago.

  Results:
  Dominican: 7
  Concordia Chicago: 1

  How it Happened:
  -The Stars would strike quickly in the 7th minute thanks to a well-placed header from Senior Dylan Alic. Alic was able to fight for positioning and get on the end of a cross from 5th-year Student Oleksandr Melnyk, who was played in by Senior Ryan Gutierrez.
  -In the 18th minute, CUC would knot the score at 1.
  -Dominican would surge to a 2-1 lead in the 21st minute as Melnyk turned home a beautiful setup from Senior John Cronnolly.
  -DU would take the 2-1 lead into the break, leading in shots 9 to 6.
 -Junior Paul Urban would slot home the Stars' 3rd goal of the afternoon in the 54th minute.
  -Urban was not satisfied yet, as he would turn home another goal just a few minutes later after staring down a yawning cage thanks to a gorgeous feed from Melnyk.
  -Dominican then extended their lead to 5-1 through a calm finish from Cronnolly, who was played in by 5th-year Student Zach Gamster.
  -Gamster would have a run on goal where he made no mistake making the score 6-1 in favor of DU. Senior Jordan Corrieri picked up the helper on the play.
  -In the 85th minute, Sophomore Nico Leon joined in on the goal-scoring after turning home a cross from Freshman Travis Fowler.
  -The final score of the match would read 7-1 in favor of DU. Dominican finished the match with 21 total shots with 15 of them finding the target.

  Shining Stars:
  -5th-year Student Oleksandr Melnyk had a stand-out performance on the afternoon, notching 1 goal and 3 assists.
 -Junior Paul Urban scored twice in the contest.
  -Senior John Cronnolly scored his team-leading 10th goal on the season and added an assist in the effort.
  -5th-year Student Zach Gamster tallied a goal and an assist.
  -Senior Dylan Alic headed home his 3rd on the season.
  -Sophomore Nico Leon potted a goal on 2 shots on target.

  What's Next:
  Dominican Men's Soccer finished the 2024 Regular Season with a conference record of 8-1-3 and an overall record of 11-4-4. The Stars finished 2nd in the NACC standings, which means they will host the quarterfinal match against Concordia University Wisconsin. The two sides could not come up with a winner as the score was 1-1 in their previous contest this season. Kick-off at West Campus Field for the quarterfinal will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3rd.
