Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

10-Men Stars Survive to Advance

River Forest, Ill. -The Dominican University men's soccer team hosted the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin for the quarterfinal of the NACC Tournament. DU entered the tournament as the 2-seed with an 8-1-3 record in conference play. After a 5-6-1 stint in conference play, CUW was slated at the 7-seed.

 Results:
 Dominican: 3

 How it Happened:
 -In the 9th minute, Freshman Jonathan Almaguer had two chances in the six-yard box denied by the Falcon keeper.
 -Senior Dylan Alic would open the goal scoring for the Stars after heading home a beautifully delivered ball from the corner by 5th-year Student Oleksandr Melnyk.
 -DU would push for a second before the break, with efforts from Senior John Cronnolly, Senior Jordan Corrieri, and Melnyk all being saved.
 -Dominican would head into half-time with a 1-0 lead. Shots favored the Stars 14-0.
-5th-year Student Zach Gamster would fire a shot off the woodwork on the half-volley a minute into the 2nd half.
 -In the 49th minute, Junior Paul Urban was able to pounce on a loose ball in the six-yard box and extended the DU lead to 2-0.
 -After a run from Cronnolly won Dominican a penalty, Alic would step up and rifle home his second of the match from the spot. 3-0 Star lead in the 54th minute.
-CUW would answer back in the 66th minute off a set piece from a corner.
-While trying to track down a loose ball, Corrieri would receive a straight red from the referee after a physical play with CUW's goalkeeper. DU would be down to ten men in the 78th minute.
-The Falcons would then score a goal from the penalty spot due to a handball by the Stars in the 80th minute. Now 3-2, Dominican would shift to a defensive structure to protect the 1-goal lead.
-Despite a flurry of efforts from Concordia Wisconsin in the remaining 10 minutes of the match, DU would cling to the 3-2 lead by the full-time whistle.
-By the end of the contest, the Stars outshot the Falcons 21-6 and found the target 11 times compared to CUW hitting the net 2 times.


 Shining Stars:
 -Senior Dylan Alic scored 2 goals in the quarterfinal matchup and played all 90 minutes.
 -Junior Paul Urban slotted home his 5th goal of the season while logging 48 minutes up front for the Stars.
 -5th-year student Olek Melnyk assisted on the 1st Alic goal and was credited with 4 shots.
 -Senior John Cronnolly fired 3 shots with 2 of them hitting the target and won a penalty kick for DU.
