Stars Fall For the First Time at Igini Sports Forum

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University women's volleyball team hosted the Muskies of Lakeland University on Thursday evening.

Results:
Lakeland: 3
Dominican: 1

How it Happened:
-Dominican started the match slow only putting up 7 kills in the first set, while having 8 attacking errors. DU lost the first set 25-12.
-The Stars were able to jump to a 9-6 lead early in the second set behind 2 kills apiece for Junior Ellery Shea and Senior Tanya De La Riva. Dominican earned 12 total kills in the set, but watch the three point lead fade away, with DU losing the second set 25-22.
 -The Stars clawed their way back into the match in the third set. Facing an early 11-3 deficit Dominican fought back and won the set 25-20 on 10 total kills.
-In the third set Senior Melissa Schmidt led Dominican to set victory earning back-to-back service aces. Senior Mia Febles came alive in the set also, earning 5 total kills.
-The fourth set was a back and forth battle between Lakeland and Dominican, but the Muskies were able to turn the tide in their favor late. DU would fall in the win or go home set 25-21, The Stars did collect 13 total kills in the set and only 3 errors.

Shining Stars:
-Senior Mia Febles was the anchor for the Stars on Thursday night, leading the team with 16 kills, 8 digs and a service ace.
-Junior Ellery Shea has continued to shine for DU with 11 kills and 5 blocks on the night.
-Senior Melissa Schmidt added 2 more service aces to her total. Schmidt also had 9 digs in the match.  
-Senior Adeleen Dunker had 11 assists, 2 service aces and 4 digs.
-Sophomore Rubie Morrissette led the Stars in the assists column with 15 of them.
-Sophomore Kathryn Ksiezak was second on the team in blocks with 4.
-Senior Charlotte Hain had 15 total digs on the night, this being DU team high.

What's Next:
The Dominican University women's volleyball team will be right back in the Igini Sports Forum Saturday afternoon, when the Stars host the Raiders of MSOE. The match will begin at 12:00 pm.
