St. Louis, MO. – The Dominican University women's basketball team traveled to St. Louis to face-off against the Griffins of Fontbonne University on Sunday afternoon.
Results:
Dominican: 76
Fontbonne: 45
How it Happened:
-Dominican started off on the right foot shooting 45% from the field in the first quarter and took a 19-15 lead to the second quarter.
-Freshman
Danielle Washington had 7 points in the first quarter.
-The Stars defense came to life in the second quarter holding Fontbonne to 16% from the field in the quarter. DU took a 38-23 lead into the half.
-Graduate Student
Melissa Gomez exploded in the quarter with 9 points.
-Dominican held the Griffins to only 4 points in the third quarter and their offense continue to shine scoring 22. The Stars shot a game high 55% from the field and once again held Fontbonne to 16%.
-Sophomore
Aya Deiri found her grove in the quarter scoring 7 points. Freshman
Chenoa Moss also chipped in with 6 points.
-DU was able to hold strong in the fourth quarter and shot 38% from the floor.
-Freshman
Elizabeth McCabe found her confidence and scored her first collegiate points and more with 7 in the final quarter.
-Despite the poor shooting from behind the three-point line and at the charity stripe the Stars still shot 44% from the field.
Shining Stars:
-Graduate Student
Melissa Gomez led Dominican in points with 13 of them. Gomez was all over the floor though grabbing 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in the game.
-Sophomore
Kaitlyn Milison had 10 points and 6 rebounds.
-Freshman
Chenoa Moss has continued to make an impact with 8 points and 5 rebounds.
-Freshman
Danielle Washington got the Stars into the right grove scoring all 7 of her points in the first quarter.
-Sophomore
Aya Deiri has continued to be everywhere for DU scoring 7 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, recording a block and a steal.
-Sophomore
Laila Jones contributed 7 points.
-Freshman
Elizabeth McCabe scored her first 7 points of her collegiate career.
