Stars Blank Sabres to Earn a Spot in Semifinals

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University women's soccer team hosted the Sabres of Marian University for the quarterfinal of the NACC Tournament. The Stars entered the contest as the 3-seed with Marian slated as the 6-seed.

  Results:
  Dominican: 2
  Marian: 0

  How it Happened:
  -Dominican would strike quickly off a neat finish from Sophomore Meghan Wilhite in the 9th minute. Graduate Student Grace Larson and Junior Sarah Matuszek were instrumental in the build-up play and were awarded assists on the goal.
  -Graduate Student Regan Coxon had a headed effort denied by the Marian keeper in the 36th minute.
  -DU would take the 1-0 lead into the break. The Stars would muster 15 total shots in the first half.
  -Wilhite and Junior Kamryn Klinger would both put attempts on goal in an effort to double the DU lead, but they were both denied by the Sabre netminder.
  -In the 64th minute, Junior Mia Dosen would rifle home Dominican's second goal of the afternoon after another setup from Matuszek.
  -The Stars would push for a third, but efforts from Wilhite and Junior Natalia Lopez could not find the back of the net.
  -DU would cruise to a 2-0 win. Final shots favored the Stars 32-3.

  Shining Stars:
  -Sophomore Meghan Wilhite booted home her 5th of the season, which would prove to be the game-winning goal. Wilhite finished the contest with 7 shots, 3 of which found the target.
  -Junior Mia Dosen scored her 7th of the campaign.
  -Junior Sarah Matuszek assisted on both of the DU goals. 
 -Graduate Student Grace Larson registered an assist and had 4 total shots.
  -Graduate Student Sarah Grimmett finished with 3 saves in the shutout win.

  What's Next:
  The Dominican University women's soccer team will travel to MSOE to take on the Raiders in the semifinal of the NACC tournament. The contest will take place on Tuesday, November 5th with the kick-off time still to be determined.
