Stars Comeback Bid Denied at Monmouth

Monmouth, Ill. - Dominican women's basketball was back on the road for a non-conference game against the Fighting Scots of Monmouth College.

 Results:
 Dominican: 57
 Monmouth: 64

 How it Happened:
 -Dominican jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead thanks to a three from Sophomore Kaitlyn Milison and a fast-break layup from Graduate Student Melissa Gomez.
 -The Stars would finish the rest of the 1st quarter cold from the field shooting 3-17 and down 17-7 on the scoreboard.
 -Sophomore Lia Saunders would fire off 7 points during the 2nd quarter to keep DU within striking distance at halftime down 32-23.
 -Gomez would continue to dominate in the paint during the 3rd,  and with contributions from Sophomore Laila Jones and Freshman Elizabeth McCabe, the Stars would find themselves down 49-37 heading into the final frame.
 -DU would continue to battle back in the third, having their best shooting splits of the night with 44.44% from the field and 40% from three, but the Fighting Scots' lead was too much to overcome.
-Monmouth secured the 64-57 win.

 Shining Stars:
 -Graduate Student scored a season-high 18 points while adding 4 rebounds and 4 steals.
 -Sophomore Lia Saunders collected 15 points and contributed 3 rebounds and 2 steals.
 -Sophomore Aya Deiri had 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in 27 minutes off the bench for DU.

 Points: Gomez (18)
 Rebounds: Deiri, Washington, and Gajkowska (5)

 What's Next:
 Dominican University women's basketball will have a quick turnaround and will be back at the Igini Sports Forum on Saturday, December 14th, to take on Maranatha Baptist University for Season of Giving Night. Tip-off is slated for 3:30 p.m.
