Stars Earn First Win on Home Court

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University women's basketball team hosted the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist to start off winter break.

Results:
Dominican: 80
Maranatha Baptist: 33

How it Happened:
-Dominican got the party going with 17 first quarter points on 29% shooting from the floor.  
-Sophomore Lia Saunders led the Stars in the first quarter with 5 points.    
-The offense for DU exploded in the second quarter with 29 points on 50% shooting. Dominican's success in the quarter came from turning the Sabercats over 9 times.
-Freshman Elizabeth McCabe was on another level, scoring 10 points in the second quarter alone.
-The Stars went into the break with a 46-17 lead.
-The offensive explosion was not done yet for Dominican has they came out of the half ready for more, scoring 22 points on 47% shooting.
-The Stars got scoring help from multiple players. Freshman Chenoa Moss, Graduate Student Melissa Gomez, Junior Kamila Gajkowska, and Sophomore Aya Deiri all had 4 points for Dominican in the third.
-DU continued to shoot it well in the 4th quarter, shooting 40% and scoring 12 points.    
-Junior Niah Williams had half of the Dominican points in the quarter with 6.
-The Stars had 34 points of turnovers in the game.

Shining Stars:
-Freshman Elizabeth McCabe played her best game in a Stars uniform. Collecting 11 points, 7 assists, 5 steals, and 2 rebounds.
-Junior Kamila Gajkowska continued to be a monster on the glass, leading the Stars in rebounds with 11. Gajkowska also collected 4 points, 3 assists, a block, and a steal.    
-Graduate Student Melissa Gomez led Dominican with 15 points on 7-13 shooting from the floor.
-Sophomore Lia Saunders was all over the stat sheet with 13 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.
-Sophomore Aya Deiri collected 8 points, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds.  
-Junior Niah Williams found her stride with 8 points. 6 of them being in the 4th quarter.
-Freshman Chenoa Moss added 9 points to her name by shooting 4-8 from the floor.

What's Next:
The Dominican University women's basketball team will be right back in the Igini Sports Forum Tuesday afternoon when Blackburn College comes to town. Tip-off between the Stars and the Beavers is set for 3:30 pm.
