Davenport, Fla. - The Dominican University softball team played their final doubleheader of their spring break trip Saturday afternoon.
The Stars took on New England College for game one, and then Plymouth State University for game two.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 4
New England:3
How it Happened:
-The Stars got the scoring going in the bottom of the first inning with a RBI double by Sophomore
Ryley Davis.
-DU added a run in the third inning on a RBI single to right field by Junior
Donatela Sommesi.
-Dominican would add 2 more runs in their half of the 5th inning on an RBI single by Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane, making the score 4-0.
-New England College would jump back into the ball game in the 6th inning scoring 3 runs on 4 hits.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane was the leader for the Stars this game pitching 6.2 innings giving up 0 runs and recording a strikeout. Faber-Cournane also, went 2 for 3 at the plate bringing in 2 RBI's
-Junior
Hanna Voegtle went 2 for 3
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi went 1 for 3 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.

How it Happened:
-Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Plymouth State got 2 runs on 2 hits, plus capitalizing on 2 Dominican errors.
-The scoring would remain 2-0 in favor of Plymouth State until the top of the 6th. When DU put up a 3 run inning.
-Sophomore
Paytin Salfi got the scoring going on a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher bringing in a run. Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane hit an RBI single knotting the score up at 2. Stars were not done then getting a run on a first and third play.
-The Panthers did not wait to answer back scoring the tying run in the bottom of the 6th on 3 hits.
-The score would hold at 3 to 3 going into the 8th inning. Where the Stars would have first at bats, and cash in scoring a run off of a sacrifice fly by Sophomore

-Plymouth State would go 3 up and 3 down in their half of the 8th.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane wen 2 for 2 with an RBI. Faber-Cournane came into the game in to pitch in the 6th inning. Throwing 3 innings only giving up a run, and recording the win.
-Senior
Geneva Pollman went 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi went 1 for 2 with a run scored and a walk.
-Junior
Emma Woodhouse went 1 for 3 with a walk and run scored offensively. Woodhouse pitched 5 innings only giving up 2 runs on 3 strikeouts.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team spring break trip has concluded with the Stars playing 12 total games in Florida, and going 11-1, and currently on a 8 game win streak. Where they will bring that 8 game win streak to Elizabethtown Kentucky where they will play 4 games in 2 days. Starting off with a double-header Saturday March 16th. Where Dominican will take on Anderson University of Indiana at 11:15 a.m. and then DePauw University right after at 1:30 p.m.Â
