Stars Dominate to a 4-0 Conference Start

Rosemont, Ill. - The Dominican University softball team was back at home for a double header against Alverno College. 

Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 14
Alverno:2 

How it Happened:
-Dominican and St. Norbert were held both held scoreless for the first inning. 
-The Stars got on the board first with Senior Geneva Pollman hitting an RBI single to rigth field. Junior Lily Santoyo followed it up with what started off as a single to the pitcher, but turned into a little league homerun. Senior Kennedy Marvin brought in the next run with a sacrifice bunt to the shortstop. Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane crossed home plate on a wild pitch scoring the final run of the inning for DU.
-Dominican got 3 more runs in the 3rd, starting off with Sophomore Paytin Salfi hitting a sacrifice fly to right field. Sanytoyo followed it up with anotehr RBI single to the pitcher. Freshman Kailee Diaz-Randall doubled to left field bringing in the third run of the inning. 
-Alverno got one the board scoring a run on no hits. 
-The Stars put up another huge inning in the 4th. Sophomore Ryley Davis got the scoring going with an RBI single to right field. Freshman Tressa Scanlon, and Pollman both reached on an error that each brought a run home. Senior Malia Giles followed it up with a 2 run double to center field. Freshman Liberty Rivard hit an RBI sinlge to left field that brought in the 14th run of the game for DU. 

Shining Stars:
-Senior Geneva Pollman was at the head of the Stars offensively going 2 for 3 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. 
-Sophomore Ryley Davis went 2 for 3 with an RBI
-Junior Lily Santoyo went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and 2 runs scored. 
-Senior Malia Gilles had a pinch hit 2 run double. 
-Freshman Kailee Diaz Randall went 2 for 2 with an RBI, and a run scored.

How it Happened:
-The Stars continued right where they left off in game one with Junior Emma Woodhouse starting it off with an RBI single to center field. Sophomore Paytin Salfi brought in the second run on a fielders choice. Senior Geneva Pollman followed it up with an 2 run double. Junior Lily Santoyo then reached on a fielding error that brought in Pollman. Junior Hanna Voegtle continued the hit parade with an RBI single to right field. Dominican was not done there though, the top of the order with Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane singling to right field that borught in the 7th run of the inning. Junior Donatela Sommesi then hit a 2 run trible to center field. Woodhouse who brought the first run of the inning home also brought the last run of the inning home with a ground out to the shortstop. 
-DU put up 10 runs in the first inning. 
-Dominican added 3 more to their total in the bottom of the second inning. Diaz Randall continued her fantastic day with an RBI single to center field. Voegtle followed it up with an RBI single to center field. Woodhouse brought in her third RBI of the game on a single to the second baseman. 
-The Inferno got on the board in the 4th inning with a run on a hit. 

Shining Stars:
-Junior Emma Woodhouse went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's and a run scored. 
-Junior Hanna Voegtle went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. 
-Freshman Kailee Diaz Randall went 2 for 2 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. 
-Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane went 2 for 2 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. 
Senior Geneva Pollman went 1 for 1 with a walk, 2 RBI's , and 2 runs scored.

Freshman Kailee Diaz Randall had a career day in her young collegiate career going 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored in the first game, and in the second game went 2 for 2 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. In total Diaz Randall went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. 

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will be right back into action on the road Saturday morning, where the Stars will travel to Concordia Wisconsin to face off with the Falcons. First pitch of the double header will be at 12:00 p.m.
