Stars Blank Sabres


Rosemont, Ill. - The Dominican University softball team was back in action after moving up to #19 in the national rankings. The Stars hosted the Sabres of Marian University on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 4
Marian: 0  
 
How it Happened:
-Dominican got the scoring going in the first inning with Sophomore Ryley Davis hit an RBI double to center field. 
-The score remained 1-0 in favor of DU. Both teams threatened to score multiple times but were unable to score. 
-The Stars added to their lead in the 4th inning. The first run coming off of the bat Junior Lily Santoyo. Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane followed it up with an RBI single up the middle. 
-Senior Geneva Pollman added the fourth run of the game on a RBI single to left field. 
-Starting pitcher Faber-Cournane held the Sabre offense to only 2 hits in the game. 
 
Shining Stars:
-Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored offensively. Faber-Cournane pitched a gem in the circle throwing 7 scoreless innings collecting 6 strikeouts, and only giving up 2 hits. 
-Sophomore Ryley Davis went 3 for 3 with an RBI 
-Senior Geneva Pollman went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. 
-Junior Emma Woodhouse went 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored.

How it Happened:
-Both starting pitchers dominated in the game. Only allowed a combined 6 hits for the first four innings of the game. 
-Junior Lily Santoyo brought in the first run of the game on a fielder's choice in the 4th. 
-DU was able to scratch another run across the board in the bottom of the fifth inning with Junior Emma Woodhouse bringing in a run on groundout to the third basemen. 
 
Shining Stars:
-Junior Donatela Sommesi led the Stars in game two going 3 for 4 with a run scored. 
-Junior Emma Woodhouse went 1 for 2 with a walk and an RBI offensively. Inside the circle, Woodhouse went 7 scoreless innings and picked up 4 strikeouts.

Starting pitchers for Dominican Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane, and Junior Emma Woodhouse combined with 14 scoreless innings and only allowing 5 hits. 
 
What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will take their 21-game win streak on the road to Benedictine University for a doubleheader against the Eagles. These games will be Tuesday, April 9th, and will start at 4:00 p.m.
