Stars Don't Let Up A Run on Day 3 in Florida

Davenport, Fla. - The Dominican University softball team played a doubleheader on Tuesday. 

The Stars took on Wheaton College game 1, and then faced off against Johnson & Wales University. 

Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 4
Wheaton:0

How it Happened:
-Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning. 
-Dominican got on the board in the top of the second inning. Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane hit an RBI single to centerfield, bringing the score to 1-0. 
-The Stars added runs in the third inning. The first coming off of a Junior Emma Woodhouse RBI double to center. Woodhouse scored later in the inning on a sacrifice bunt by Sophomore Paytin Salfi
-DU added another run in the top of the 5th inning with an RBI single by Sophomore Ryley Davis
-Faber-Cournane started the game for the Stars and dominated the Thunder. Faber-Cournane only allowed 2 hits in 7 scoreless innings. 

Shining Stars:
-Sophomore Ryley Davis led the Stars going 3 for 4 with an RBI 
-Junior Emma Woodhouse went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. 
-Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane pitched 7 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts. Faber-Cournane also went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

How it Happened:
-JWU and DU both played extremely competitive ball game. 
-The first inning both teams were held hit less. 
-Junior starter Emma Woodhouse got herself in a jam in the top of the fourth, but wiggled out of the inning with JWU not getting on the board. 
-The Stars threaten in their half of the 5th inning but was unable to get a run across the board. 
-The game would end up going into extra innings all tied up at 0. 
-JWU went 3 up and 3 down in their half of the 8th. 
-The Stars would win the game on an RBI single by Woodhouse. 

Shining Stars:
-Junior Emma Woodhouse continued her dominate start to the season pitching 8 scoreless innings. Woodhouse gave up 5 hits, but collected 7 strikeouts. Woodhouse went 1 for 4 offensively but collected the only RBI in the ball game.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will continue their action in Florida March 6th where the Stars will play a double header against Buena Vista University at 4 pm est, and follow it up with a game against Bethany Lutheran College at 6:30 pm est.
