Davenport, Fla. - The Dominican University softball team played a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.
The Stars took on Buena Vista University for game one, and followed it up with a game against Bethany Lutheran College
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 10
Buena Vista: 7
How it Happened:
-The Stars did not hesitate getting on the board in the first inning, scoring 3.
-The first run came off of the bat of Sophomore
Paytin Salfi, where she reached on a fielders choice. DU got the second run on a triple steal with Junior
Donatela Sommesi stealing home. Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall knocked in the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
-Senior starting pitcher for the Stars
Kayla Faber-Cournane held BVU off the board until the top half of the 4th, where they scored 3 runs on 2 hits.
-Dominican would answer back with a 5 spot in the 5th inning.
-Starting off with Junior
Emma Woodhouse laying a bunt down scoring a run. Sophomore
Ryley Davis reached on an error shortly after bringing in the second run of the inning. Salfi would continue the train on a ground out to the first baseman that brought home a run. Diaz Randall than brought in her second RBI of the game singling to third base. The final run of the inning for the Stars came off of an error by the second baseman.
-Buena Vista answered back by grabbing a run in the top of the 6th on two hits.
-DU did not let up and scored 2 more runs of their own in the bottom half. The first run coming off of a sacrifice bunt by Freshman
Anabel Boles. Following Freshman
Alyssa Craig scored on a stolen base.
-The Beavers tried to make a comeback but fell short in the top of the 7th scoring 3 runs on 4 hits.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi led the Stars going 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored.
-Senior Geneva Polls man went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.
-Junior
Emma Woodhouse went 1 for 2 with a walk, an RBI, and 2 runs scored.
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane pitched 6 innings with a strikeout

How it Happened:
-Both teams would be shutout until the top of the 3rd inning when DU put up 5.
-The scoring would start for Dominican with Junior
Donatela Sommesi hitting a 2 RBI single to right field. Sophomore
Paytin Salfi was then hit by a pitch that brought home a run. Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall would follow it up by being hit by a pitch that brought home another run. The final run came off of a bases load walk by Junior Lily Santoyo.
-DU would add two more runs in the 5th inning by Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane and Diaz Randall both scored on a wild pitch.
-BLC finally got on the board in their half of the 5th scoring a run on 3 hits.
-Dominican would put up another crooked number in the top of the 7th.
-Diaz Randall continued here fantastic day with a 2 run single. Senior
Geneva Pollman continued the hit parade with a 3 run RBI double.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi went 2 for 3 with 2 walks, 2 RBI's and a run scored.
-Senior
Geneva Pollman went 1 for 5 with 3 RBI's
-Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall went 1 for 2 with a walk, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored.
-Junior
Emma Woodhouse continued her dominance in the circle pitching 5 innings only allowing a run with 2 strikeouts.
-Junior
Hanna Voegtle came in relief to pitch 2 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will be back in action Friday morning when the Stars will take on Simmons University at 9:00 a.m. and then play University of Northwestern Minnesota at 11:15 a.m.
