Davenport, Fla. - The Dominican University softball team played a doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
The Stars took on Simmons University for game one, and followed it up with a game against University of Northwestern Minn.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 8
Buena Vista: 1
How it Happened:
-The Stars fell behind in the first inning giving up a run on a hit.
-DU was able to tie the game up in their half of the third inning, on an RBI single by Junior Donatela Somesi.
-Dominican would add 2 more runs in the fourth. The first coming off the bat of Senior
Geneva Pollman on a grounder to 2nd. Somesi would bring home the second run on an out to the pitcher.
-The Stars were not done getting 2 more in the 5th inning. Junior
Emma Woodhouse scored the first run of the inning, the second came on a RBI single by Junior Lily Santoyo.
-DU would add 3 insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning getting the score to 8-1.
-Junior
Natalie Tatera brought in the first run of the inning on a fielding error by the 3rd baseman. Junior
Hanna Voegtle pinch hit for Dominican in the 7th, and came up big hitting a 2 run single to center field.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Emma Woodhouse led the Stars going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Woodhouse started the game for the Stars in the cirlce pitching 6 innings giving up a run on 3 hits.
-Junior Donatela Somesi went 1 for 3 bringing in 2 RBI's. To go along with a walk.
-Junior
Hanna Voegtle went 1 for 1 with 2 RBI's in her pinch hit at bat.

How it Happened:
-The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd when DU got on the board with 3 runs.
-The scoring would start for Dominican with a sacrifice fly by Sophomore
Ryley Davis. Sophomore
Paytin Salfi continue the scoring for the Stars with a 2 run double to left field. .
-Northwestern would answer in the top of the 4th scoring a run on 2 hits.
-Dominican did not wait long to get the run back as Junior
Hanna Voegtle brought in a run on a ground out to the first baseman.
-The Stars got 2 insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. The first run coming on a passed ball. The second with Voegtle driving in her second RBI of the day on a single to left field.
Shining Stars:
-Junior Lily Santoyo had a career day at the play going 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored.
-Junior
Hanna Voegtle went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's, and a run scored.
-Sophomore
Paytin Salfi went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane pitched 6 innings only allowing a run and recording 6 strikeouts. Faber-Cournane is now 4-0 on the year in the circle.
-Freshman
Liberty Rivard came in the game to pitch in the 7th and went 3 up and 3 down recording 2 strikeouts.
-Senior
Geneva Pollman went 2 for 3 with a walk and run scored.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will look to extend their win streak to 8 Saturday morning with a double header. The first game will be at 10:15 a.m. est against New England College. Right after the Stars will play Plymouth State University.
