Stars Tie Single Season Win Record with a Sweep Against Cougars

Rosemont, Ill. – The Dominican University softball team hosted the Cougars of Concordia University of Chicago for their final home game of the season, on Tuesday night.

Game 1 Results:

How it Happened:
-The Stars started off hot scoring a run in the first inning, with Junior Donatela Sommesi hitting an RBI triple.
-Dominican continued that momentum into the 2nd inning where the Stars put up a three spot.
-The scoring got going with Freshman Kailee Diaz Randall hitting an RBI triple to center field. Junior Hanna Voegtle followed it up with an RBI single to right field. The final run of the inning was on a sacrifice fly by Sommesi.
-DU added another run in the 4th with Junior Emma Woodhouse hitting a 2 RBI triple to centerfield.    
-Dominican would shut the door in the bottom of the 5th, by scoring two runs to reach the slaughter rule.
-Freshman Anabel Boles scored the first run of the inning with her speed stealing third base, and then scoring on a throwing error. Freshman Alyssa Craig followed it up with an RBI single to right field.  
 
Shining Stars:
-Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane started in the circle for the Stars and continued to be dominant. In this start Kayla threw 5 scoreless innings only giving up one hit, and collecting a strikeout. Faber-Courane also was at the front of the DU offense going 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored.
-Junior Emma Woodhouse went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs
-Junior Donatela Sommesi went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs
-Freshman Kailee Diaz Randal went 1 for 2 with a RBI, and a run scored.
-Junior Hanna Voegtle went 1 for 1 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.
-Freshman Alyssa Craig had a pinch hit at bat where she singled to right field, that brought in the game winning RBI.

How it Happened:
-Dominican continued their momentum from the first game and scored in the first inning with Senior Geneva Pollman doubling to centerfield.
-The score remained 1-0 until the third inning when the Stars added two more runs to their total. When Sophomore Paytin Salfi hit a two-run homerun to right field.   
-The Cougars got on the board in the fourth scoring a run on a hit.   
-DU answered back in the bottom half of the fourth putting up a three spot.
-The first run was brought in on a single by Pollman. Salfi followed it up by hitting a sacrifice fly that brought in two runs, due to an error by the centerfielder.
-CUC scratched two runs in the fifth on three hits.
-Dominican answered back once again by scoring on a fielder's choice off the bat of Junior Hanna Voegtle.
 
Shining Stars:
-Junior Emma Woodhouse pitched all seven innings in the game, collecting 5 strikeouts and only giving up 3 runs. Woodhouse was a big factor offensively going 2 for 3 with a walk, and 3 runs scored.   
-Junior Lili Santoyo went 3 for 4 with a run scored.
-Senior Geneva Pollman went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.
-Sophomore Ryley Davis went 2 for 4. 
-Sophomore Paytin Salfi went 1 for 2 with a walk, 3 RBI's and a run scored.

After today's sweep the Stars has tied the single season win record with 31.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will go on the road for a doubleheader Saturday afternoon, for a face-off against the Eagles of Edgewood College. First pitch will be at 12:00 p.m.
