Madison, Wis. – The Dominican University softball team traveled to Edgewood College for a doubleheader against the Eagles, on Thursday night after the schedule change.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 14
Edgewood: 4
How it Happened:
-The Stars came out of the gates hot scoring a run in the top half of the first inning. Senior
Geneva Pollman brought home the run on a RBI single to left field.
-Edgewood started off hot also, answering with a huge first inning, scoring 4 runs on 2 hits.
-It did not take long for Dominican to answer, and answer in a huge way scoring 4 runs on 5 hits in the second.
-The scoring got going with Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane reaching on a fielder's choice, and brought in Junior
Lili Santoyo. Junior
Donatela Sommesi followed it up with an RBI double to centerfield. Junior
Emma Woodhouse continued the hit parade by hitting an RBI single to centerfield. Woodhouse and Sommesi wreaked havoc on the base paths, with Woodhouse stealing second and Sommesi crossing the plate on the throw down.
-The Stars would make it scoring in three straight innings with another big inning, scoring 4 runs on 3 hits. This time Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall got the party started with an RBI single to through the left side. Junior
Hanna Voegtle followed it up by reaching on a fielder's choice that brought in Junior
Gillian Czubernat. Faber-Cournane grounded out to the second basemen, but did her job scoring Diaz Randall. Sommesi's bat stayed hot hitting an RBI single to right field.
-DU's bats were on fire scoring 4 more runs in the 4
th inning, making this three straight innings of scoring 4 runs.
-Woodhouse got the scoring going by scoring on a throwing error by the catcher of Edgewood. Voegtle followed it up by reaching on an error and Pollman coming across the plate. Faber-Cournane and the Stars continued to make the errors pay with Kayla reaching on an error, and Santoyo scoring.
-Dominican made it scoring in every single inning of the game, with Sophomore
Paytin Salfi joining in on the fun by hitting a single to left field, that brought home Senior
Malia Gilles because of an error by the left fielder.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi was at the front of the Stars offense going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored.
-Junior
Emma Woodhouse went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Senior
Geneva Pollman went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Junior
Lili Santoyo went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored.
-Sophomore
Paytin Salfi went 2 for 3 with a walk.
-Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Junior
Hanna Voegtle went 1 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Voegtle also came in relief for the Stars throwing a shut-out inning.
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane started in the circle for DU going 4 ininngs giving up her first runs since April 14
th. Faber-Cournane picked up a strikeout in the outing.

How it Happened:
-The Stars continued scoring in every inning of the day by scoring a run in the first inning of game two. Senior Geneva Pollman hitting an RBI single to centerfield.
-Dominican doubled their lead in the 3
rd inning with Junior
Emma Woodhouse hitting an RBI single to left field.
-The score remained 2-0 until the top of the 5
th inning, and then DU had the bats wake up again scoring 4 runs in the inning on 6 hits.
-The hit parade started with Sophomore
Paytin Salfi hitting a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Junior
Lili Santoyo followed it up with a RBI single to left field. The bats kept rolling with Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall hitting an RBI double to left field. The final run of the inning came off an RBI single by Senior
Kennedy Marvin.
-The Stars made it an 8-0 lead in the 6
th inning due to Woodhouse hitting an RBI triple to centerfield, and then scoring on a wild pitch shortly after.
-Edgewood needed to score to extend the game, and they scored 3 runs on 4 hits.
-The score was 8-3 going into the 7
th inning and both teams were scoreless in the 7
th.
Shining Stars:
-Junior
Emma Woodhouse started the game for the Stars and picked up 7 strikeouts in the outing, and did not give up any runs until 6
th inning. Woodhouse also was the leader of the DU offense in the second game of the evening going 4 for 4 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Woodhouse was a homerun away from the cycle.
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored.
-Junior
Lili Santoyo went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Senior
Kennedy Marvin went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

After today's sweep the Stars have set a new single season win record with 33 wins so far on the year. DU still has one more regular season series left, and just clinched a spot in the NACC tournament.

Lili Santoyo got on base in every at bat this evening going 5 for 5 with an RBI and 3 runs scored.
What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will travel to Rockford University for their final series of the regular season Sunday afternoon. First pitch of the doubleheader will be at 12:00 p.m.
