Stars Win Two High Scoring Games on the Road

Milwaukee, Wis. – The Dominican University baseball team traveled to Wisconsin Lutheran College for a doubleheader against the Warriors, on Saturday afternoon.   

Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 9
Wisconsin Lutheran: 5

How it Happened:
-Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, but the Stars getting two runs in the second inning. First run was delivered by Sophomore Zach Helein hitting an RBI double to centerfield. Freshman Alex Garcia traded places with Helein, with his own RBI double.
-DU doubled their lead with Sophomore Niko Krecu hitting his first ever collegiate homerun, on a two-run shot to centerfield.
-Dominican made it scoring in three straight innings by putting up a 5-run inning in the 4th.        
-The scoring started off with Senior Anthony Nalbono hitting an RBI double to centerfield. Senior Matt Galdi hit his 5th homerun of the year, as a two-run homerun to right field. Junior Quinton Schwartz made it three two-run homeruns in the inning with a homerun to centerfield.
-Senior Starting pitcher Payton Brooks was dominant on the mound, and did not give up a run until the bottom of the fifth inning. Where the Warriors got a run on a hit.  
-WLC continued the momentum from the fifth by scoring two more runs on two hits in the sixth.
-Wisconsin Lutheran made it three straight innings of scoring by making DU pay for the error and score two runs on two hits.
 

Shining Stars:
- Senior Matt Galdi continued his hot streak, by going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. One of Galdi's hits being a homerun.
-Sophomore Niko Krecu went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Two of Krecu's three hits were extra bases.
-Sophomore Zach Helein went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Junior Quinton Schwartz went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, and a run scored.
-Senior Payton Brooks started for the Stars on the mound, throwing a complete game. Brooks gave up 7 hits, and only 3 earned runs while, picking up 8 strikeouts.

Game 2 Results:

How it Happened:
-The Stars carried the momentum from game one win over to the second game by scoring 3 runs in the top of the first.    
-The scoring got going with Senior Matt Galdi hitting an RBI double down the left field line. Sophomore Niko Krecu followed it up by hitting a 2 RBI single to right field.
 -WLC answered back with a crooked number of their own, by scoring 2 runs on 3 hits.
-DU was able to scratch another run across the board in the second Junior CJ Kalekas scoring on a wild pitch.
-The Dominican bats remained hot by scoring 6 runs on 3 hits in the third inning.
-First run was scored by Senior Anthony Nalbono drawing a bases loaded walk. Shortly after Senior Peyton Arsenault scored on a wild pitch. Galdi followed it up by drawing a bases loaded walk. Finally the Stars were able to cash in multiple runs scoring on Krecu hitting a two run doble to left field. The final two runs of the inning were scored off the bat of Junior Ryan Schmidt hitting a two RBI single up the middle.
-WLC cut into the lead by scoring 3 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the third.
-DU scored in the fourth straight inning with another big inning. Scoring 5 runs on 4 hits.
-Galdi got the scoring going by hitting hit second homerun of the day, this one being a three-run shot to center field. Schmidt followed it up with a two-run homerun to left field. This being Schmidt's first collegiate homerun.   
-Dominican found themselves with a 15-5 lead going into the top of the 5th inning.
-The scored remained 15-5 until the bottom of the sixth when Wisconsin Lutheran hit a solo homerun to left field.
-The Warriors continued to scored by adding two runs in the 7th inning on 3 hits.
-WLC kept scratching away at the DU lead by scoring two more runs on two hits in the 8th.
-The Stars had a 15-10 lead going into the 9th inning, but the Warriors made it close by scoring 4 runs on 5 hits, but leaving the bases loaded. This resulting in a Dominican 15-14 win.

Shining Stars:
-Senior Matt Galdi went 2 for 4 with 2 walks, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Both of Galdi's hit were extra base hits.
-Junior Ryan Schmidt went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs and a run scored.
-Sophomore Niko Krecu went 2 for 5 with a walk, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
-Senior Anthony Nalbono went 2 for 3, with 3 walks, an RBI and 3 runs scored.
-Junior CJ Kalekas went 2 for 5 with a walk, and 3 runs scored.

What's Next:
The Dominican University baseball team will be at home for the final time Tuesday afternoon, when the Stars host the Regents of Rockford University for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one will be at 1:00 p.m.
