Schaumburg, Ill. – The Dominican University baseball team was back in action Sunday evening, when the Muskies came to Wintrust Field for a double header.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 6
Lakeland: 5
How it Happened:
-The Stars got on the board first in the game, with Junior
CJ Kalekas hitting a 2 RBI single to center field.
-Lakeland did not waste any time getting those runs back the following inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.
-Junior
Michael Christopher had a big two out hit to center field that brought in the third run for DU.
-Dominican made it three straight scoring inning with Sophomore
Zach Helein hit an RBI single to right field.
-The Stars took a 4-2 lead into the fifth inning with starting pitcher Kalekas only allowing 2 hits. Kalekas went 6 innings only giving up the 2 runs.
-Lakeland was able to tie the game up in the 7
th inning on 3 hits.
-DU was unable to score in the bottom of the 7
th inning, and the game went into extra innings.
-In the bottom of the 8
th Helein drew a bases loaded walk, that won the game for DU.
Shining Stars:
- Junior
CJ Kalekas had a day offensively and on the hill. Hitting wise Kalekas went 4 for 5 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. On the hill Kalekas pitched 6 innings only allowing 2 runs and picked up 6 strikeouts.
-Senior
Matt Galdi went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
-Sophomore
Zach Helein went 1 for 4 with a walk and 2 RBI's
-Senior
Anthony Nalbono went 2 for 3 with a run scored.

How it Happened:
- Dominican carried the momentum from game one to the second with Senior
Matt Galdi got the scoring going with a sacrifice fly to left field.
-The Stars added to their 1-0 lead in the second with Junior
Ryan Schmidt hitting an RBI double to center field.
- DU continued to score in every inning by putting up a crooked inning in the 3
rd. Scoring got going with Sophomore
Niko Krecu hitting an RBI single to center field. Galdi followed it up scoring on a wild pitch. Senior
Anthony Nalbono continued the rally hitting a 2 RBI single to center field. Freshman
Ty Phillips added the fifth run of the inning on an RBI single to left field.
-Dominican had a 7-0 lead at the end of the 3
rd inning.
-Krecu grounded out to shortstop bringing in his second RBI of the day in the 4
th inning.
-In the bottom of the 6
th inning Freshman
Alex Garcia collected 2 RBIs on a single to right field. Junior
Ryan Schmidt brought in 2 more runs on a single to right field. Freshman
Langdon Downing continue the hit parade with his first collegiate RBIs on a 2 run double to left field.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Anthony Nalbono was huge part of the Stars offense going 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
-Junior
Ryan Schmidt went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored.
-Junior
CJ Kalekas continued his fantastic day going 1 for 3 with 2 walks and 4 runs scored.
-Senior
Chris Kendziora started the game on the mound for the Stars going 5 scoreless inning with 3 strikeouts.
-Freshman
Alex Garcia went 1 for 2 getting 2 RBIs and a run scored.
-Freshman
Langdon Downing went 1 for 2 collecting 2 RBIs
