Cleveland, Ohio. – The Dominican University softball team played their first NCAA tournament game in program history against Calvin University on Thursday afternoon.
Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 2
Calvin: 4
How it Happened:
-Calvin got on the board first, with a solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning
-Dominican answered back instantly by scoring two runs on two hits in the top of the second inning
-The scoring got going with Sophomore
Ryley Davis hitting a double off the fence, that brought around Senior
Geneva Pollman. Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane brought in the second RBI by reaching on a fielder's choice, with Junior
Gillian Czubernat coming around to score.
-DU had all the momentum on their side by 3 straight singles from Freshman
Kailee Diaz Randall, Junior
Lili Santoyo, and Pollman.
-Calvin shut the door here though with three straight outs, and leaving the Dominican runners stranded.
-Faber-Cournane started in the circle for the Stars and handled the momentum shift with ease getting the Knights hitters in 1-2-3 order in the third inning.
- Calvin tied the ball game up at 2 by scoring a run on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.
-Two innings later, the Knights found the leading runs by scoring 2 runs on 5 hits, putting all of the pressure on the Stars to score in the top of the 7
th.
-Dominican went 1-2-3 in the 7
th inning.
Shining Stars:
-Senior
Kayla Faber-Cournane went 1 for 3 with an RBI offensively, and threw all 6 innings for the Stars while collecting 4 strikeouts.
-Sophomore
Ryley Davis went 1 for 3 with an RBI, and her hit being a double off the left center wall.
-Junior
Donatela Sommesi went 1 for 2 with a walk.
-Senior
Geneva Pollman went 1 for 3 with a run scored, and a walk.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team will be back in action tomorrow afternoon facing elimination. With the Stars backs against the wall, they will face Penn State Behrend. First pitch will be at 1:30 PM ET.
