Stars Earn Split With Falcons

Mequon, Wis. – The Dominican University softball team traveled to Concordia University of Wisconsin, for a crucial series with the Falcons Monday afternoon.

Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 3
Concordia Wisconsin: 4
 
How it Happened:
-The first run of the ball game was scored in the bottom of the second inning with the Falcons scoring a run on a hit, and taking advantage of a Dominican error.
-The Stars wasted no time tying the ball game up at 1 with Junior Emma Woodhouse hitting a sacrifice fly to right field.
-The score would remain 1-1 until the top of the 6th inning when the DU bats found some live scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Freshman Kailee Diaz Randall brought home both of those runs with a double to centerfield.
-CUW did not hesitate on answering back by scoring 3 runs on 4 hits in the bottom half of the 6th inning, and taking a 4-3 lead of Dominican into the final inning.
-The Stars got a runner on base in the 7th, but was unable to push the runner across the plate. Resulting in a 4-3 loss.
 
Shining Stars:
-Freshman Kailee Diaz Randall went 1 for 2 with a walk, and brought home 2 RBIs.
-Junior Donatela Sommesi went 2 for 3 with a run scored.   
-Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane went 2 for 3 on the offensive side of the ball. Faber-Cournane also started the game for the Stars throwing 6 innings, giving up 4 runs and collecting a strikeout.

Game 2 Results:

How it Happened:
-The Stars took the loss from game one and used it as motivation by scoring in the first inning. The run was scored by Junior Lili Santoyo hitting an RBI single to right field.   
-CUW answered back quickly though tying the game up at 1, in the bottom half of the first. Scoring a run on two hits.
-Dominican took the lead in the 3rd inning with Junior Donatela Sommesi hitting her first collegiate homerun. This being a solo shot to right field.
-DU added a third run in the game on an RBI double by Sophomore Ryley Davis.   
-Concordia Wisconsin was able to scratch a run across in the bottom of the 4th inning on two hits, and taking advantage of a Dominican error.   
-The score would hold up as a 3-2 final in favor of DU, with no team threatening to score the rest of the ball game.   
 
Shining Stars:
 -Junior Emma Woodhouse started in the circle for the Stars and was fantastic. Going 3.2 innings only giving up one earned run. Woodhouse also collected two strikeouts.  
-Senior Kayla Faber-Cournane came in relief for Dominican throwing 3.1 scoreless innnigs, and earning the save.
-Junior Donatela Sommesi went 1 for 3 with an RBI, and 2 runs scored. Her hit being a solo homerun.
 -Sophomore Ryley Davis went 2 for 3 with an RBI   
-Junior Lili Santoyo went 1 for 3 with an RBI

What's Next:
With this win the Dominican University softball team has clinched the regular season NACC championship! This earns the Stars the #1 seed in the NACC tournament which begins Thursday afternoon. For DU their tournament will not begin until Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
