Stars Start off Home Stand With a Win

River Forest, Ill- The Dominican University women's volleyball team hosted the Hornets of Kalamazoo College on Saturday afternoon to start their five game home stand.

Results:
Dominican: 3
Kalamazoo: 0

How it Happened:
-Dominican was firing on all cylinders early after the loss Thursday night. The Stars won the first set 25-15. Collecting 12 kills on 26 total attacks.

-Senior Tanya De La Riva led the Stars in the set with 5 kills.
-DU went on a 5-0 scoring run with Senior Miriam Guler serving for the team.  
 -Dominican kept their foot on the gas winning the second set 25-21. DU collected 12 kills in this set on 34 total attacks.
-The Stars continued having big runs with Junior Veronica Henkel at service. Where Dominican went on a 7-0 run. Henkel had an ace in this sequence.
-Sophomore Kathryn Ksiezak caught fire collecting 3 kills in the set.
-The Stars and the Hornets went down to the wire in the third set. Before DU was able to come away with a sweep, winning 25-22 and collecting 17 kills on 38 total attacks.
-Dominican was able to overcome a 5-0 run by Kalamazoo in the set. De La Riva recorded the final 3 kills in the match to secure the victory.
 

Shining Stars:
-Senior Tanya De La Riva led the Stars with kills collecting 17 of them. De La Riva also collected 10 digs in the match.    
-Senior Mia Febles added 10 kills to her collegiate total in the match. While, collecting a service ace and 7 digs.
 -Junior Veronica Henkel found her stride serving. Collecting 3 service aces in the match.
-Senior Melissa Schmidt led the team in assists with 19 of them, and was second on the team in digs with 8 of them.
-Sophomore Rubie Morrissette collected 11 kills in the match.
-Sophomore Kathryn Ksiezak led the team in blocks with 3.

What's Next:
The Dominican University women's volleyball team will have their second game of the home stand on Thursday night. They will host the Muskies of Lakeland University to continue conference play. First serve will be at 7:00 pm.
