Stars Comeback Falls Short Against Cardinals

River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's soccer team hosted the North Central College Cardinals for their home opener Wednesday evening.

Results:
North Central:4
Dominican:2

How it Happened:
-The Cardinals got on the board first by scoring a goal in the 17th minute of the game.
-North Central continued their pressure, adding a second goal in the 27th minute.
-The score would be 2-0 in favor of NCC going into the half. Dominican was able to create 7 shots in the half, but none finding the back of the net.
-The Stars players to record shots in the first half are Senior Katie Norlie, Junior Mia Dosen, Freshman Ariana Barney, and Junior Sarah Matuszek.
-DU came out of the break energized by cutting the NCC lead in half. With Barney scoring her first collegiate goal on a rebound from 5th year student Grace Larson initial shot.
-The Stars found the equalizer 3 minutes later with Dosen getting her first goal in a Dominican uniform.
-The score was all tied at 2 in the 56th minute of the match.
-North Central took the momentum back with netting their third goal of the match in the 62nd minute of the game.
-The Cardinals delivered the final goal of the game in the 78th minute.
This making the score 4-2 in favor of NCC.

Shining Stars:
-Junior Mia Dosen had 5 shots in the game, 2 of those shots on target and one of them finding the back of the net.  
-Freshman Ariana Barney scored her first collegiate goal of her career. Barney also had 4 shots and 2 of them on target.
-Junior Sarah Matuszek had 1 assist, and 1 shot.
-5th Year Student Grace Larson had 2 shots on goal 1 of them found the target.
-5th Year Student Sarah Grimmett started in net for Dominican and ended the evening with 13 saves.
-Junior Natalia Lopez collected 2 shots in the match with 1 of them being on target.

What's Next:
Dominican will be back in action on Saturday September 7th at 11:00 am facing off against Wisconsin-La Crosse. This will be apart of the Dominican Invite. Where there will be two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday. DU will play one game on each day.
