Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Win First Game in New Calender Year.

Milwaukee, Wis. – The Dominican University women's basketball team traveled to Mount Mary University for their first game since the new calendar year.

Results:
Dominican: 71
Mount Mary: 38

How it Happened:
-The first quarter between DU and MMU was a high-paced back-and-forth affair with a 17-16 score at the buzzer.  
-Freshman Chenoa Moss was the leading scorer after one with 6 points and going 3-4 from the field.      
-The Stars shot 58% in the first quarter.
- In the second quarter the Dominican defense clamped down, holding the Blue Angels to just 5 points and 15% from the floor.  
-DU offense put up 16 points in the quarter, being led by Freshman Danielle Washington, who went 2-3 from behind the three-point line.
-The Stars went into the break with a 33-21 lead.
-Dominican came out of the half firing on all cylinders, scoring 25 points in the quarter and holding Mount Mary to just 3 points in the quarter.  
-Graduate Student Melissa Gomez found her stride in the quarter, scoring 5 points on 2-2 shooting.  
-As a team, Dominican shot 64% from the field in the third quarter.  
-The fourth quarter was a lot more back and forth between the two schools, with the Blue Angels taking a 14-13 advantage in the quarter.  

Shining Stars:
-Graduate Student Melissa Gomez has continued to be the workhorse for the Stars. Gomez was the leading scorer with 17 points on 7-12 shooting from the floor and 3-3 from the charity stripe.
-Freshman Danielle Washington caught fire from behind the arc scoring 15 and shooting 5-9 from three.
-Freshman Chenoa Moss started for the Stars and was able to get back her groove, scoring 13 points on 6-8 shooting.
-Sophomore Lia Saunders was all over the floor for Dominican. Despite just scoring 6 points, she was all over the board and assists categories.

What's Next:
The Dominican University women's basketball team will restart the NACC on Wednesday night. The Spartans of Aurora University will be in the Igini Sports Forum. Tip-off between AU and DU will be at 7:00pm.
